Convert More Buyers: How to Add Video to an Etsy Listing

Video content for your handmade business isn’t going anywhere any time soon. So you’ll need to learn how to use it to your advantage. A good video can drive traffic to your listings, help convert visits into sales, and show off the best features of your products. So how do you add video to an Etsy listing easily? Let’s learn more.

How Video is Used on Etsy

You can include videos in a few locations in your Etsy shop. The first is in your About section. Click the “Edit Shop” button as shown below. It will appear near the top left-hand corner of your shop banner.

Then scroll down to the About section where you will see an option to add photos and a video that help buyers get to know you and your making process better.

There is a 300 MB upload limit and videos will play sound. Use a video that introduces yourself to help buyers get to know, like, and trust you.

Remember who your target audience is if you’re showing part of your making process in this video. Your buyers don’t want a step-by-step guide to making your products. If they did, they’d be searching on Google instead! Show them some behind the scenes, without teaching them to make your products.

The next place that video is used on Etsy is in each listing. These videos show up in the second spot in your listing, right behind the thumbnail image. Buyers will also get a preview of the video on search screens on both the website and in the app.

Watch the video below to see what this looks like on the Etsy website. The videos start playing when a customer scrolls over the individual listings.

How to Add Video to Your Etsy Listing

To add video to your Etsy listing, follow these steps:

  1. Create your video. Remember that Etsy only allows listing videos up to 15 seconds. If your video isn’t uploading, it’s probably too long. Aim for 14 seconds.
  2. Navigate to your listing on the Etsy website or in the app.
  3. Add your video by clicking the section shown below.

Remember that listing videos will not have sound. So make sure that buyers will be able to understand what you’re trying to convey without sound or a voiceover.

Video Content Ideas for Your Listings

When you first start adding video to your Etsy listings, it can be overwhelming to decide what to feature. At the beginning, keep your concepts simple. Show off your product’s best feature or something that makes it unique that your buyers love.

Want additional ideas for your Etsy listing videos? Use the list below to get you started:

  • Lifestyle Videos: The goal of this video is to help customers imagine what the product would look like in their lives. Show products in use in your home or out and about during your day-to-day life.

  • Customer Reviews: Use customer reviews and testimonials to highlight unique features of your product that stand out from the competition.
