There are two factors we want to compare when talking about how long it takes for Etsy ads to work for your Etsy business. So let’s talk about the timeline you can expect for your ads to be profitable on Etsy.
How long does it take for your ads to show up?
Once you turn ads on, it takes just minutes for you to start showing up in buyers searches. Especially if you have a lot of listings or are using some popular keywords. But that doesn’t mean showing up as quickly and as much as possible is a good strategy! Only use a budget that you are comfortable losing everyday. I recommend 1-2 listings per dollar to maximize sales opportunities.
How long does it take for your ads to optimize?
Etsy ads use an algorithm to decide what listings are best to show to what buyers. It takes your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and budget into account among other things. This algorithm can take 30 days or longer to optimize. And that changes when you make changes. So if you start with a budget of a few dollars and a day then move it up to $25 a day, the algorithm is going to need to start optimizing all over again.
That doesn’t mean you can’t change your settings on your Etsy ads ever! But what I recommend for the first time you turn Etsy ads on, is to set them up with a budget you feel comfortable losing daily then not touch them for 30 days to give them the best chance of optimizing.
At the end of that 30 days, you’ll be able to assess what worked and what did work with your ads, and make changes based off those numbers.
