If you’re looking to open your first Etsy shop, I know you want to make sure you do it right so you can get sales quickly. So how many Etsy listings should you start with when opening your shop? Let’s talk about what factors go into this decision.
How Etsy works
Etsy is unique in that the quantity of listings you have in your shop does matter. This is unlike other platforms, like Amazon or when you have your own website. So you’ll want to start or work towards having full product lines.
Consider your niche
Your niche is also a big factor when it comes with how many listings you’ll need on Etsy. Super saturated markets like digital products, jewelry, t-shirts, and weddings can mean you need more products before you start getting traffic to your shop.
Don’t let that discourage you, though! Saturated markets sometimes mean a lot of demand.
Consider what’s realistic
If you’re busy working a full time job, taking care of your family, or have other time constraints, you’re probably not going to have a full shop prior to opening. You’ll be better off opening with just 1 listing than you will be waiting for months until you feel your shop is full enough.
So how many Etsy listings do you need?
If you can get full product lines in just a week or two, feel free to wait and open when your shop has a full first page of listings. There’s no magic number though, so done is better than perfect.
