The Ultimate Guide to Listing Frequency on Etsy: How Often is Too Often?

If you’re an Etsy seller, you know how important it is to stay active on the platform. So you’ve probably asked yourself how often you should be listing on Etsy? And that’s a good question because one of the best things you can do is consistently publish new listings. But is there a perfect number of listings per day, week, or month? This guide will help you decide on the perfect listing schedule for your Etsy business.

Understanding the Etsy Algorithm and How it Affects How Often to List

To understand how listing frequency affects your success on Etsy, it’s important to first understand how the Etsy algorithm works. The search algorithm is designed to show the most relevant products to shoppers based on a variety of factors, including listing quality, sales history, and engagement.

While recency (or how new a listing is) isn’t as big of a factor in the Etsy search algorithm as it was a few years ago, listing frequently on Etsy can help you become more relevant for searches being completed on the platform because you’re consistently getting tested for new keywords.

However, it’s important to note that listing frequency is just one of many factor in getting traffic on Etsy. Simply listing more products won’t guarantee success if the quality of your listings and the keywords you’re using isn’t where it should be.

So, how often should you be listing to maximize your success on Etsy? Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of listing frequently.

The Pros and Cons of Listing Often on Etsy

There are a few ways that listing frequently on Etsy can help your sales. First, it can help you reach more shoppers through new keyword phrases that are in those listings. Second, listing frequently can help you stay top-of-mind with shoppers who have previously favorited your Etsy shop.

However, there are also some downsides to listing frequently. You never want to prioritize quantity of listings over the quality of those listings. A shop with 100 listings with poor quality photos and badly researched keywords will not perform better than a shop with 20 really well done listings.

It can also be really overwhelming to manage a lot of products. So as you’re publishing new listings, you’ll want to make sure you’re keeping your systems and processes organized.

Lastly, having a lot of listings can be confusing for buyers as well. If your shoppers are having a difficult time finding what they need inside of your shop, then your conversion rate will be low as customers will end up purchasing from someone else. To keep your listings easy to find, make sure you’re using your shop sections effectively.

Finding Your Ideal Listing Frequency

The ideal listing frequency for your Etsy shop will depend on a few factors, including the type of products you sell, your target audience, and your available time and resources.

Some products, of course, take longer to make than others. If you’re a digital seller creating simple printables or doing POD (Print on Demand), you might be able to publish a couple of listings each day. If you’re making complicated digital products or physical products that require you to order new supplies or take hours to make, you might only be able to list a new product a couple of times each month.

You want to make sure that you’re taking all of these factors into account when you’re setting a goal for listing frequency. Trying to create too many listings, too quickly can cause quality issues that will harm your business or burnout that will harm YOU!

I suggest setting a listing goal that feels reasonable for your products and schedule then testing that goal. If you notice it’s way too difficult to keep up with consistently, you’ll be better off listing products less often.

Tips for Making Quality Listings

If you’re focusing on consistently adding new products on Etsy, it’s important to have an effective strategy to increase your traffic during this process. Here’s what you need to know:

– Start with keyword research to ensure buyers are searching for the products you’re making

– Focus on one product line at a time for faster results

– Make sure you’re following best practices for SEO formatting

Finding the Right Balance for Your Etsy Shop

Listing frequency is an important factor in your success on Etsy, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to getting more sales for your shop. Quality listings, good SEO practices, and marketing also need to be a part of your business strategy.
