Vacation mode on Etsy is nothing to be scared of. If you’ll be away from making products and are unable to answer customer service messages for a period of time on Etsy, here’s how to put your Etsy shop on Vacation Mode.
Should you use vacation mode on Etsy?
There is a lot of confusion out there about Etsy vacation mode. Some Etsy sellers will tell you that vacation mode hurt their shop and traffic. But the truth is that Vacation Mode on Etsy will not hurt your Etsy shop.
The sellers who notice a decrease in traffic after going on Vacation Mode have either gone on vacation during a busy time then come back when traffic has been slower (like during the holiday season) or were gone for an extended period of time.
If you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, Vacation Mode will not hurt your shop any more than any other method of removing your listings from search (like deactivating all of them). So if you are going to be away from your shop and unable to answer messages on Etsy, use vacation mode without stressing about getting traffic when you come back.
How to turn Vacation Mode on in your Etsy shop
Turning on Vacation Mode in your Etsy shop is very easy. Here’s what to do.
Desktop/Browser
To turn on Vacation Mode on a computer or browser, go to your shop manager then click settings. On the top of that menu you will find the “Vacation Mode” tab.
Click that tab and you’ll find the tab to turn vacation mode on in your Etsy shop. You will then be able to input a Vacation Announcement and message auto-reply to let your customers know when you’ll be back.
Etsy App
In the Etsy app, the process is mostly the same. Use the orange Etsy seller app as the new blue Etsy seller app doesn’t have this option available yet. Click more in the bottom right hand corner, then click settings, and shop settings. Then scroll down to the bottom of that page to find your vacation mode options including the announcement and auto-reply.
How to get more sales when you’re back
After you use vacation mode, you’ll want to make a plan to get sales going again as quickly as possible. I recommend using a few different methods.
First, you can take vacation mode off a day or two before you arrive back with an increased processing time so you have a few orders ready and waiting for you when you get back home.
The second thing you can do is run a short sale when you open back up. This will help you get some extra traffic from Etsy in the first day or two after opening back up.
