If you've spent any time in your Etsy stats, you might be wondering what Direct Traffic means and how to get more of it. Let's learn more.
What is direct traffic?
Direct and other traffic on Etsy is visits that come from people who typed your shop link directly into their browser URL or found you from a blog, news site, or any other website that featured your link.

To find out more about these stats, go to your stats page on Etsy then click on “Direct & Other Traffic” as shown above.
From that page, you will see a list of domains that have sent traffic to your shop.
How to increase your direct traffic
To increase your direct traffic stats, you'll want to focus on your own marketing efforts. This can include:
Starting an email list
Getting featured by bloggers in your niche
Getting featured in news publications and magazines
An app like Qwoted can help you get featured in a news article without paying a PR expert, but it is a heavy investment in your time.
Other traffic sources
There is a lot of other information on your Etsy stats page. Here's what all of those categories mean and how you can increase them.
Etsy App and Other Etsy Pages
With more and more people shopping on their phones, Etsy app traffic is up for a lot of sellers. These visits can come from buyers doing searches in the app or buyers clicking a link to your shop that then opens in the Etsy app.
To increase this traffic, you'll want to focus on marketing as well as getting found in Etsy search.
Other Etsy pages include other URLS excluding Etsy search. If you get featured on an Etsy page like on an Editors pics page or the Etsy home page, those are included in this traffic. This also includes buyers visiting your shop from their favorites page.
Etsy Search
Your Etsy search ranking is one of the easiest ways to increase your traffic quickly. Search traffic comes from your Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which is how Etsy ranks your listings based on a variety of factors including your tags, titles, descriptions, and more.

Etsy Marketing and SEO
While this name often confuses Etsy sellers, Etsy marketing and SEO is what ETSY does for their own marketing and SEO. When you see a market page ranking on Google like shown below, that's Etsy Marketing and SEO.

While I don't recommend spending time ranking your Etsy listings for Google for a variety of reasons, you can improve your stats in this category by ranking your Etsy shop for Etsy search results like you normally would. This will help you be more likely to show up in these curated market pages.
Social Media
Social media platforms are an important traffic source for a lot of Etsy sellers. Potential customers can follow you on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and more.
To get more traffic from social media websites, focus on creating a community of followers who engage with you regularly. Don't forget to link your Etsy shop in your social media bio so visitors can find you.
You can also work with influencers on each platform.
Etsy Ads
Advertising directly on Etsy is a great option for shops that have a good conversion rate. Click here to learn more about Etsy ads.
FAQ:
How can I increase traffic to my Etsy shop?
Most Etsy business owners find it's easiest to get traffic from Etsy search compared to external channels like social media websites.
To rank higher and increase Etsy search traffic to your shop, follow SEO best practices by having a thorough keyword research process and formatting your listing tags and titles according to best practices. Learn more about that in my free masterclass here.
Why am I getting views but no sales?
Most of the time, when sellers ask me this question, they aren't actually getting enough traffic to increase their total sales each month.
A normal conversion rate on Etsy is 1-3%. If your conversion rate is normal, you need to focus more on increasing traffic for your business. Learn more about that here.
How many visits do I need to get a sale?
With a normal conversion rate, you'll need between 33 – 100 visits to get a sale on Etsy.
Does Pinterest work for increasing Etsy shop traffic?
Pinterest can be a great marketing channel for most shops. Keep in mind that results on this platform can be a lot slower than social media channels like Instagram or TikTok because Pinterest is a search engine, not a social media platform.
If you haven't started any social media channels yet, I recommend picking Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok first. Then start Pinterest when you're already getting some traffic from Etsy and social.
Do Etsy ads work to increase traffic?
Yes…but it depends! Here's the deal, Etsy ads are based on your listing's SEO. If your Etsy SEO isn't optimized with appropriate keywords, Etsy will have a hard time showing your ads to relevant buyers.
You also need a good conversion rate to make the ads cost-effective.
If you aren't ready for advertising, Etsy ads can still increase your shop traffic. But is your goal traffic? Or is it profitable sales?
Make sure you hold off on Etsy ads until you're ready for them. Click here to learn more.
